Spruce Up Your Traditional Lemonade With These Summer Twists

Summer is just around the corner, so why not start preparing for your summer barbecues with new takes on a summer staple? If you make an impressive lemonade, experimenting with new flavors and fruits can make it even better. Try out these refreshing summer takes on lemonade for your next backyard get-together.

Refreshing Watermelon Lemonade

Whether you're at a family picnic or a backyard barbecue, watermelon is sure to make an appearance. This refreshing summer staple is popular among kids and adults alike, so why not add it into your lemonade? Put about two pounds of your seedless watermelon in a blender and blend until it's well pureed. Put it through a mesh strainer and collect the juice in a bowl or jug. Add this to your traditional lemonade recipe for an added punch. Don't forget to taste it and adjust sugar or water quantities until it's just right.

Sweet Blueberry Lemonade

Blueberries are known for their sweet and refreshing taste, but did you know they're also a superfood? Packed with antioxidants and vitamin C, these small berries can actually help you lower your risk of developing cancer and heart disease. To add them to your lemonade, cook them down in your simple syrup. To make a simple syrup, combine 1 part water with one part sugar in a saucepan on medium heat. Allow the sugar to dissolve and then add in about a cup of blueberries. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow the blueberries to breakdown into the syrup. Unlike normal simple syrup, you will need to strain this one to get ride of any left over chunks. Once it's cool, add the syrup to lemon juice and water for a delicious blueberry lemonade.
