What is the Paleo Diet?

It seems that every few months or even weeks there is a new trendy diet to follow. Most of these trendy diets boast quick weight loss and other miracle-like results, but the crazy food and routines they employ are less than attractive. The Paleo diet isn't quite like the rest of these, although it is currently quite trendy. To help you understand the basics behind this food trend, Great Harvest in Spokane has some useful information to help you decide if it's right for you.

Basics Behind the Paleo Diet

Unlike other fad diets, the Paleo diet allows you to choose from a healthy variety of foods as well as allowing you to eat until you're satisfied. The concept behind this food plan is to cut out unhealthy refined foods, sugars and trans fats that are linked to dangerous diseases and conditions. Instead, the focus is on eating food that is clean, similar to what cavemen ate. Things that can be hunted, like meat and fish, and things that can be found, such as nuts, berries and vegetables, make up the base of this diet. By avoiding refined foods and staying away from calorie counting programs, you can be sure your stomach will be satisfied along with your overall health.

What Can I Eat on the Paleo Diet?

Because so much of the food we eat today is heavily processed, it may seem a bit difficult to keep up with this food plan. The reality is that there are so many Paleo food options and delicious Paleo recipes available that it really isn't that difficult to follow. You'll need to include lean proteins into your diet in order to build muscle and strengthen your immune system. Fruits and vegetables can help reduce degenerative diseases and give you more energy throughout the day. Remember to include healthy fats, such as avocado, nuts and olive oil, in your diet in order to reduce the occurrence of heart disease and cognitive decline.
